On Friday, President Zuzana Caputova met her counterpart Milos Zeman to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Operation Anthropoid. On 27th May 1942, the assassination of leading Nazi Reinhard Heydrich in Prague was carried out by Jozef Gabcik and Jan Kubis. The two soldiers of the Czechoslovak army were trained by the British Special Operational Executive. Their act was the only government-sponsored assassination of a high-ranking Nazi officer during WWII. Despite the brutal reprisals leaving several villages burnt down with many civilians killed, Anthropoid is considered an outstanding act of resistance against fascism.
