Parliament advances inflation package to second reading

Parliament on Tuesday advanced a draft law on financing children's leisure time, sponsored by the Finance Ministry, to its second reading. The motion was supported by 82 of the 133 Members present. It was supported by MPs from the OĽANO and We are Family parties, as well as by MPs from the parties For the People and People's Party Our Slovakia. The allowance for leisure activities should be paid to children aged between 5 and 18 years old at a monthly rate of 50 euros. This follows from the draft law on the financing of children's leisure time. The Ministry of Finance said that the new child leisure time financing act aims to support children's leisure activities in the fields of education, sport and culture through a financial allowance. The Ministry of Education and the Department of Culture are to establish a list of leisure activities for which the allowance can be used to fund. The registers are to be established by 1 January next year. At the same time, the tax bonus for children should be increased as well. The child allowance should go up to €30 per month as of this July, and to €50 per month as of January 2023.
