The World Wildlife Fund welcomes the announcement by Environment Minister Jan Budaj that the Morava River will be removed from the list of transport arteries. Its restoration will be a priority. The Slovak Press Agency was informed about this by the Director of The World Wildlife Fund Slovakia, Miroslava Plassmann. Together with Austria, Slovakia is committed to the comprehensive restoration of the Morava River. According to the organisation, the Morava is one of the most important rivers in Central Europe. Such a river is rare for its wet meadows, which are rich in plants and animals. Environmentalists point out, however, that humans have changed its shape, shortening the river, cutting off meanders and reducing the area of flood meadows.
