Slovakia will unequivocally support the accession of Finland and Sweden to the North Atlantic Alliance if both countries decide to apply, according to Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok.
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin already announced that their country would submit an application to NATO in the coming days. Sweden is expected to announce their position soon.
"We will do everything we can to make this happen as quickly as possible. It is in our own interest," Korčok said.
He stressed that the accession of Finland and Sweden, which have long been close NATO partners, would strengthen the entire Alliance politically and militarily. Both countries, he said, have large and advanced armies that would be a significant asset for collective defence.
"Russian aggression has literally united the entire democratic community," believes Minister Korčok, who highlighted the fact that NATO allies, including Slovakia, are sending Ukraine the military equipment and armaments that Kiev needs to defend itself against Russian aggression.
