Former Policeman Vorobjov goes to prison for two years

On Monday, the Specialized Criminal Court sentenced ex-policeman Pavel Vorobjov to two years in prison with minimum security and forfeiture of property. Vorobjov, previously serving as head of the financial intelligence unit of the National Criminal Agency, was charged with a total of nine offences. They include working for a criminal group and the related offences of accepting bribes and abuse of authority of a public official, as well as unauthorised handling of personal data. His name is also associated with the so-called lustrations of journalists.

The court approved the plea bargain, so the sentence is final. Vorobyov pleaded guilty, which was a prerequisite for the approval of the plea bargain, as well as the waiver of the right to a public trial and the possibility to appeal.
