Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová okayed changes in the building legislation - the law on area planning, the construction law and an amendment to the act on the organisation of government activities and organisation of the central state administration. However, despite the signature, she does not consider the amendment to the building regulations to be complete and closed.
The head of state decided to sign the laws after becoming acquainted with the adopted wording of the laws. According to her, in the last phase of the legislative process, a significant shift occurred, and contradictions and possible conflicts with the Constitution, pointed out by the professional public and local government, were eliminated. She perceives the need for a fundamental reform of the current building regulations, so she decided to sign the approved laws.
Čaputová stated that it will be necessary to adopt legislation defining the relationship between building regulations and environmental impact assessment processes, there is also scope for the identified shortcomings to be remedied.
On April 27, Parliament approved three government bills tabled by Deputy Prime Minister Štefan Holý (nominee of the We Are Family party). Among others, the aim is to put an end to illegal constructions as well as professionalise state administration, reduce the administrative burden and simplify processes.
