Marking International Nurses Day, Health Minister Vladimir Lengvarsky thanked nurses, assistants and other health personnel of the Children's Diseases National Institute for their hard work and dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic. As he said, they deserve the public's gratitude and respect. Nurses’ Day is observed on May 12, the day marking the anniversary of the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. "She rose to fame during the Crimean War, demonstrating perfectly she had the knack for the job," claimed Lengvarsky. He added that nurses in Slovakia had to display similar qualities on a daily basis during the pandemic and probably will need to do so again in their care for Ukrainian refugees.
