Statistics Office: Both salaries and employment up in March

Nominal monthly salaries posted year-on-year (y-o-y) growth in all ten monitored sectors in March, however six of them failed to keep up with inflation. This stems from the Slovak Statistics Office report released on Thursday. Meanwhile, the number of people employed in most sectors increased y-o-y in March. More significant growth was seen in sectors that were hit hardest by the coronavirus crisis in the previous two years, especially accommodation (up 7.7 percent) and pubs and restaurants (up 6.8 percent). Employment also posted y-o-y growth in the IT sector (up 4.9 percent), in transport and warehousing (3 percent), in retail (2.6 percent) and in the sale and repair of motor vehicles (2 percent). Average nominal monthly salaries recorded the highest y-o-y growth in accommodation in March, going up by 27.2 percent to €903. Meanwhile, the IT sector, which has been paying the highest salaries in Slovakia for a long time, posted the lowest growth of 3.6 percent to €2,472.
