World Move to Health Day: Where do Europeans stand?

Today is World Move for Health Day. According to a Eurostat survey, up to 48% of Slovaks do not engage in physical activity outside work, which is only slightly higher than the EU average. Denmark, Netherlands and Sweden have the lowest proportion of inactive people, while Romania, Bulgaria and Malta have the highest. Slovakia also lags slightly behind in terms of the proportion of the population who engage in more than 150 minutes of physical activity outside work. On average, a higher proportion of men than women do at least 150 minutes of sport per week. This proportion increases with higher levels of education as well as income. Conversely, the proportion of the population that engages in at least 150 minutes of non-work physical activity decreases with increasing age. However, Slovakia lags behind as compared to the best countries, especially when it comes to exercise at older ages.
