President Caputova Commemorates End of WWII

President Zuzana Caputova commemorated 'Victory over Fascism Day' and the 77th anniversary of the end of WWII in Europe. In a speech she delivered on Sunday at the military cemetery in Zvolen, central Slovakia, she said commemorating past events is done in the very specific context of the military conflict that is currently taking place in neighbouring Ukraine. “This must remind us of the fact that peace is not a matter of course,” stated the President. As she added, paying tribute to Soviet soldiers who have merits in our liberation cannot be viewed as legitimising the war in Ukraine. “I would even say that it is a betrayal of all those who fought against real and not supposed fascism," said Caputova.
The president commemorated 'Victory over Fascism Day' and the 77th anniversary of the end of WWII in Europe by laying wreaths at the 2nd Czechoslovak Parachute Brigade Memorial in Badin (Banska Bystria region), as well as at the Cemetery of Fallen Soviet Soldiers and the Central Military Cemetery of the Royal Romanian Army in Zvolen on Sunday.
