The First Lady of the United States Jill Biden has been paying a visit to Slovakia since the past weekend. On Saturday, she honoured the memory of murdered journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kusnirova by laying flowers at their memorial on SNP Square in Bratislava. On Sunday, accompanied by Slovak Premier Eduard Heger, his spouse and Interior Minister Roman Mikulec, the US First Lady visited the Vysne Nemecke border crossing with Ukraine. Biden was interested in the work of volunteers and corps helping Ukrainian refugees. She also thanked the people of Slovakia:
“I’m so grateful to the people of Slovakia for opening up their arms, their homes and most of all for opening up their hearts. The United States stands with you.”
Subsequently, Jill Biden together with the delegation moved to Ukraine. She was scheduled to meet Slovak President Zuzana Caputova and Cabinet members on Monday, May 9.
