Economy Ministry: Households and health care priority in case of gas cut offs

In the event of a gas supply disruption, the priority is to ensure supplies for households and critical state infrastructure, including health care, said Economy Minister Richard Sulik. He pointed out that Slovakia currently has underground storage tanks filled to about 20%. According to him, the main alternative sources of gas include gas available on the EU internal market, which may come from several countries, such as Norway or Algeria.

Sulik also said that an alternative source is to purchase liquefied gas directly from traders and to transport it to terminals in Slovakia. "It is through the purchase of such gas that [gas utility] the SPP gas supplier diversifies its supplies, while another gas tanker is already en route to Slovakia," added Sulik. The minister emphasised that Slovakia has established connections with all neighbouring countries, while the construction of the connection with Poland will be completed this year.
