Vice-Premier discusses situation in Ukraine at UN summit

Vice-Premier and Investment Minister Veronika Remisova took the floor at the New Urban Agenda conference held in New York. In her address she named security, predictive and equitable planning and appropriate funding as key factors for urban development. She also called on the international community to step up pressure against the Russian Federation in order to end the aggression against Ukraine. "Six years ago, we committed ourselves to promoting affordable housing, fair urban development and human conditions for all urban dwellers. But as we sit here, millions of people in Ukraine become homeless and their homes and residential areas are being razed to the ground," said Remisova. She announced that Slovakia along with Botswana, Kenya and Grenada are launching a new initiative called 'A group of friends of the UN Habitat, sustainable urbanisation and the new urban agenda'. Prior to the conference, Slovak Vice-Premier held bilateral talks with President of the UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed.
Among the main topics of the talks was Russia's aggression in Ukraine and its impacts. According to the Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation ministry, Remisova proposed that Russia's invasion of Ukraine should become the main issue discussed by the UN General Assembly.
