PM Heger: Slovakia ready to face similar moves with energy as Poland

Speaking in reaction to Russia's decision to stop supplying gas to Poland, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) has stated on his Facebook account that Slovakia is ready to face similar moves, adding that the country will continue to pay Russian gas concern Gazprom in euros for the commodity. "Russia uses oil and gas as a tool to pursue its imperialistic interests, which have culminated in the invasion of Ukraine and war crimes on its territory," wrote Heger.

The premier stated that the Slovak gas industry has concluded a long-term contract with Gazprom and will continue to pay it in euros in line with rules and recommendations agreed by the EU. "The West's unity and solidarity won't be broken by Russia," he stressed, adding that the EU must eliminate its dependence on Russian energy carriers as soon as possible.

Gazprom reported on Tuesday that it would suspend supplies of gas to both Poland and Bulgaria as of Wednesday.
