Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová as well as several Slovak ministers congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on his re-election on Sunday. "Looking forward to continuing our work together with France for a strong and united EU," wrote Čaputová. “Populism and destruction were defeated,” reacted PM Eduard Heger. The re-election demonstrates the interest of French voters in the country's European future, stated Foreign and European Affairs
Minister Ivan Korčok. "A great and important victory," wrote Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď, adding that it is excellent news not only for the EU in terms of a successful future, but also for the whole democratic world, especially given the clear stance of Macron's administration on Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The former PM and opposition MP Peter Pellegrini welcomed Macron’s victory, adding that EU is facing enormous challenges, and without a strong German-French alliance, it will not be possible to tackle them at a European or global level.
On Sunday, Macron won the second round of the presidential election in France on 58.54% of the votes. His only rival in the second round, the right-wing politician Marine Le Pen, gained 41.46%.
