Slovakia and Poland share the same opinion in the issues of sanctions against Russia, the future of Ukraine in terms of its European prospects and support for Kiev, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger stated following talks with his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki. Morawiecki appealed to Western Europe to increase the aid to countries affected by the refugee crisis. The two premiers also discussed the future of securing energy resources. The Polish PM praised Slovakia’s efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian gas. "In this area, Poland is a key partner for us. The pipeline between Poland and Slovakia is being completed and it should be ready this year. A test run is expected in July 2022," Heger noted.
Morawiecki remarked that Russian President Vladimir Putin's intent in launching the war in Ukraine was to rebuild the Russian Empire. According to him, Putin is not hiding at all his aim to expand Russia's sphere of influence into Poland, Slovakia and the Baltic countries. Slovakia, in his view, has showed an excellent attitude in the context of the war in Ukraine, despite the fact that it is highly dependent on Russian gas.
