Cooperation and unity within the EU will be crucial in an effort to shed the EU's dependence on Russian gas supplies. Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Slovak head of state Zuzana Caputova concurred during their talks in Rome on Wednesday. Mattarella also praised Slovakia for its solidarity shown to Ukrainian refugees. Caputova, who is on a two day visit to Italy, discussed with Matarrella the prospects of cooperation in achieving long-term independence from Russian gas. According to Caputova, they concurred that unity and cooperation within the EU will be of paramount importance here, especially when procuring new supplies jointly.
