As of Thursday (April 21), respirators are now mandatory in Slovakia only in social service homes and hospitals. There is also no obligation to wear them in theatres and public transport. However, the chief hygienist Jan Mikas reminds that wearing a respirator is important despite the relaxation of measures, as crowded public spaces can still pose a risk. Moreover, mandatory quarantine following contact with a coronavirus-positive person has been scrapped as well. Health Minister Vladimir Lengvarsky informed at a press conference on Wednesday that new Pfizer vaccines, adapted to deal with the omicron variant of coronavirus, should start arriving in Slovakia in the summer, with contracts being signed until 2023. The minister assumes that the vaccine will be suitable for everyone, but this will be specified by the producer.
