NATO forward presence commander in Slovakia is Tomas Unzeitig, a commanding officer experienced with directing foreign and international operations, Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad (OLaNO) reported on a social network on Tuesday.
Unzeitig recently served as deputy commander of the 31st regiment of radiation, chemical and biological protection in Liberec. "He boasts plenty of experience with directing foreign operations that he acquired in the Czech Republic, but also in international missions in Turkey and Afghanistan," added Nad.
The NATO forward presence in Slovakia is a response to the unprovoked massive military invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The military unit is composed of soldiers from Germany, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Slovenia, and operates under Czech command.
