Slovak military help in focus in foreign media

Over the Easter holidays, Slovak military help to Ukraine was the talk of the day. Prime Minister Eduard Heger and Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad discussed Slovak military help in prestigious world media.

Heger spoke about the S-300 ground-to-air missile defense system that Slovakia had given to Ukraine as a gift on the American news television CNN. In addition to that, he mentioned the potential provision of MiG-29 jet fighters as well as other forms of Slovak aid. He also touched on plans to reduce Slovakia's dependency on Russian energy supplies, adding that democratic countries should not be intimidated by Russia but should provide maximum assistance to Ukraine.

A day earlier, Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad compared Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler in an interview for the American newspaper The New York Times. He also pointed out that more than 330,000 Ukrainians have already crossed the Slovak border. Jaroslav Nad rejected Russia's earlier claims that it had destroyed the S-300 system supplied from the European country in a strike on a hangar near the city of Dnipro and described the information as "fake news". His Ukrainian counterpart reportedly assured him that the Slovak anti-aircraft system is operational and is not located in Dnipro.
