Total of 58 companies declared bankrupt in first quarter of this year

A total of 58 companies were declared bankrupt in Slovakia in the first quarter of this year, down from the 72 reported in the same period of 2021, according to data published by the analytic company CRIF-Slovak Credit Bureau this week.

Companies engaged in the construction sector suffered the highest number of declared bankruptcies for the second consecutive month in March. "Not only the pandemic, but also the still-growing prices of construction materials, energy, salary costs and financial problems of investors had a negative influence on these companies," stated CRIF SK chief analyst Jana Markova.

The largest employers to be declared bankrupt in March included Presov-based construction company MS-Bau and ready-made food producer Wellfood Group from Trnava region. Both firms employed 10-19 people.
