Foreign Minister Korcok: Support for Ukraine must be Slovakia's top priority

Supporting Ukraine in the military-defence and economic fields must be a top priority for the European Union, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Korcok said on Tuesday, also expressing his support for the future Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, TASR learnt from the ministry's communication department.

"Our support for Ukraine, including in the military-defence and economic fields, must be a top priority for the European Union," he stressed.

The foreign affairs ministers of the Central 5 (C5) group met at Stirin Castle near Prague, the Czech Foreign Affairs Ministry stated in an official press release. The ministers agreed that Russia's aggression against Ukraine poses possible challenges. "We must support Ukraine on the path to membership, which is a political decision that we must not be afraid to implement," said Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky.

The C5 group, consisting of Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia, was set up in 2020. The aim was for closer cooperation between these countries in the fight against the pandemic.
