President Caputova: Social situation worsened, people in Slovakia need to be helped, too

The solidarity wave in connection with the refugee crisis is right and good, but people in Slovakia need to be helped as well, President Zuzana Caputova said following her meeting with representatives of the Slovak Towns Union on Tuesday.

The president agreed with Union officials on the need for repeated, systemic, targeted and financially interesting aid in connection with the deteriorating social situation.

"The Government should as soon as possible take measures to help people in difficult social situations with targeted and repeated benefits," stated Caputova. She claims that towns and villages in Slovakia are already observing a deteriorating social situation, increased nervousness among people, arrears and demands for social benefits. "It is clear that prices of commodities are increasing. It is also noticeable in the atmosphere of Slovak towns and villages," noted Caputova.

Therefore, the president and local government representatives have called for a repeated systemic and financially interesting aid for the people concerned. As one of the tools she mentioned a housing allowance that might be given, for example, to single parents, lonely pensioners or multi-child families. "The valorisation of individual social benefits should also be a part of the solution," said the head of the state.
