The Government at its session on Tuesday approved an Interior Ministry-sponsored bill allowing regional and local elections to take place in the last 21 days of an electoral term, instead of the current 14. This means that this year's regional and local elections, which will both take place on the same day, could take place on October 22. Originally, the joint elections were supposed to take place on October 29, the weekend before All Saints Day, which caused concerns about the turnout, as people generally make use of the holiday period to visit relatives and commemorate the deceased.
