Drinking alcohol in public places in the Western Slovak town of Trenčín will become illegal after two years of the rule being suspended. The Trenčín City Council approved the move at a meeting on Monday, June 30 in an effort to reduce alcohol-related crime in the town.
The new ban will apply to alcoholic beverages containing more than 0.75 percent of alcohol content. The binding regulation however will allow for exceptions as to when and where alcohol can be consumed, such as organised wine tastings and festivals. If an individual violates the ban on alcohol consumption, it may be seen as a misdemeanour; punishable by a fine of €33. In the event that the ban is violated by a legal entity or sole trader authorised to conduct business, the city can impose a fine of up to €6,638. The ban will take effect 15 days after being posted on the town’s official notice board.
