A police investigator has pressed the charges of creating a public disturbance and property damage against a 22-year-old man identified only as Zoltan from Šaľa (Nitra region).
After leaving a confessional at Notre Dame church in downtown Bratislava on Monday afternoon, the man began demolishing everything in his path, Bratislava regional police spokesman Michal Szeiff told TASR on Tuesday. “After leaving the confession box, the man began behaving aggressively and set about to damage the interior of the church. He deliberately damaged several candlesticks, knocked over a table near the altar and also damaged parts of the altar itself”, said the police spokesman, adding that the overall damage reached €500. The police patrol that was called to tackle the situation took Zoltan into custody. If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison.
