Slovakia in rush to spend EU funds, some to be used for Ukrainian Refugees

Slovakia will once again draw billions from EU funds at the last minute in an effort to prevent them from being forfeited. Over the next one and a half years, roughly €8 billion should be spent in the country. The investments would benefit the economy and the labour market. Some of the money will also help to cope with the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

According to the Government Office's press department, Slovakia will provide €530 million from unspent EU funds in support of Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia. The money should go towards humanitarian aid and ensuring basic necessities of life, as well as supporting Ukrainian citizens, for example through establishing nursery schools in Slovak towns and villages.
