Slovaks and Czechs watch debates in Finland and Sweden

Slovakia and the Czech Republic are closely watching the discussions in Finland and Sweden on their possible applications for membership of the North Atlantic Alliance. That was agreed upon in a common statement by heads of Slovak and Czech diplomacy Ivan Korcok and Jan Lipavsky in Brussels on Thursday following a two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
Korcok pointed out that Swedish Foreign Affairs Minister Ann Linde and her Finnish counterpart Pekka Haavisto also took part in the talks in Brussels. "Both countries see what is happening in their neighbourhood," said Korcok. Following the outbreak of war in Ukraine, serious discussions arose in both countries about whether they should become NATO members. "I don't want to speak for anyone else but I feel that there's absolute support for both countries, if their citizens decide so, to become members of this group freely," said Korcok.
