The first group of 200 Czech soldiers came to Slovakia to bolster the NATO forward presence on Monday. The Czech military reported that the role of the Czech soldiers is to deter the enemy and defend the NATO border. The Czechs will command a multi-national military battlegroup, with the approved mandate for up to 600 Czech soldiers. The battlegroup will also contain troops from the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Slovenia and the United States. According to Slovak Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad, in the coming days Slovakia will be fulfilling the mandate to station alliance soldiers with an eye towards defending Slovakia’s territory from a potential aggressor.
