The focus of a meeting held at the ministry in Bratislava on Monday between Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad and ambassadors of EU states, was the security situation in the wake of Russian aggression against Ukraine and the EU's Strategic Compass. The meeting was initiated by French Ambassador to Slovakia Pascal Le Deunff in the context of the ongoing French Presidency of the Council of the EU. According to Slovak Defence Minister Nad, Slovakia welcomes the approval of the EU's Strategic Compass, especially at a time when war is raging in its nearest neighbourhood. For Nad this is a clear signal that the EU is willing and capable to bolster its security and defence. Measures included in the Strategic Compass, the purpose of which is to shape joint security and defence policy in the coming years, will usher in more favourable possibilities to build and develop defence capabilities, in effect bolstering NATO as well.
