Work on removing the pillars of the Old Bridge in Bratislava will probably be paused for several weeks. The city suspects that there could be unexploded bombs in the Danube River. The Mayor of Bratislava Milan Ftáčnik is planning to ask for help of engineers from the Ministry of Defence and maybe even for foreign assistance.
Allegedly, these unexploded bombs could be from WWII. At the bottom of the Danube, there are iron objects and it’s not clear whether they are remains of constructions fallen in the past years, or whether it’s a bomb. However, several indications suggest the latter, claims Bratislava mayor Ftáčnik. Military engineers are now examining the river floor and the answer as to whether it is harmless iron or unexploded bombs could be made public in a matter of weeks, confirmed the mayor.
