More than 1,500 dogs and 650 cats crossed the Slovak-Ukrainian border in the first five weeks of the war in Ukraine, the police reported, adding that other pets and animals that have also entered Slovakia from Ukraine included horses, budgies and various parrots.
"In accordance with the legislation in place, dogs are chipped at border crossings, if they have not been until now. On the border, some animals are also given first aid and treatment," the police explained, adding that they have also dealt with births of puppies, for example.
