The last invoice for the Russian gas has already been paid, so there is no need to take any immediate steps by Slovakia, Economy Ministry spokesperson Katerina Matejkova declared on Thurdsay.
Matejkova spoke in response to calls by opposition's Voice-SD party of Peter Pellegrini urging the Government to make a public statement on Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision, according to which "enemy countries" including Slovakia have to start paying for the Russian gas in roubles as of April 1 or else Russia will withdraw from existing agreements and discontinue its supplies.
"We will take action in concert with other EU member states. In addition, the Economy Ministry is hard at work reducing Slovakia's dependency on gas from the Russian Federation," said Matejkova.
