Conditions to strip Slovaks of citizenship less harsh

Slovaks will not lose their passports after acquiring foreign citizenship if they have stayed abroad for at least five years. This stems from an amendment to the State Citizenship Act that came into effect as of Friday. Those who have already lost their Slovak citizenship can apply to have it restored, provided that they have stayed abroad for five years. In addition, people will not lose their Slovak passports if they acquired the foreign citizenship of their spouse during marriage or after the birth or adoption of their child.
