Slovak politicians mourn passing of Madeleine Albright

Former United States secretary of state Madeleine Albright who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 84 “was a bridge between Czechoslovakia and USA, said Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger." She understood our aspirations to become part of the democratic world and she made a significant contribution to this," wrote the PM on the social network in response to her death. "Madeleine Albright, born in Czechoslovakia and a true American patriot, played a pivotal role in our transformation from a nation behind the Iron Curtain to one living and promoting freedom and democracy. Our region has always been in her heart and she will always be in ours. May she rest in peace," reacted Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová. "The world has lost a unique defender of democracy, a kind friend and a fierce opponent of autocrats," Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok wrote on Twitter, adding that Albright's influence will be felt for many generations to come.
