Parliament greenlights package of measures Lex Ukraine

MPs on Tuesday approved a law on certain measures related to the situation in Ukraine; Parliament discussed the so-called Lex Ukraine in a fast-tracked legislative procedure.

The package regulates the amount of allowance for the accommodation of refugees and related conditions, as well as exemption from the payment of tolls and motorway stickers for Ukrainians. It also addresses the right to emergency medical care for Ukrainian refugees. The legislation also deals with asylum seekers, their employment relationships and accommodation.

The allowance for accommodating refugees should reach a maximum of €500-1,250 per month, depending on the number of rooms provided. It is to be paid through the municipality. The contribution is to be provided per night, the amount of which is to be regulated by a separate government regulation. Beginning in April, refugees will be obliged to notify the municipality that they were provided with accommodation. Families will apply for the allowance at the municipality, the municipality at the Interior Ministry, and the Interior Ministry at the Finance Ministry. For the time being, the allowance is set to be provided until the end of June.

Vehicles carrying humanitarian aid and refugees will be exempt from tolls. Vehicles registered in Ukraine will not have to pay for a motorway sticker in Slovakia. The new legislation also allows all refugees from Ukraine to be entitled to urgent medical care for the first 30 days after entering Slovakia.
