Less red tape and more fairness in the distribution of European Funds, a functioning state IT sector free of corruption, and more targeted aid for regions are the fundamental changes that Vice-premier and investment minister Veronika Remisova claims have taken place, in her assessment of the ministry’s two years under the current government.
Remisova pointed out that the drawing of European funds on her watch has improved by €3.5 billion, with Slovakia leaping from 27th to 22nd place in the drawing of resources.
Changes were also introduced to the distribution of contributions for the regions, with six calls for projects worth almost €37 million having been declared since March 2020.
In the state IT sector, Remisova claimed that a great "tidying up" has occurred. "With our corruption-free and professional management, we've been able to save up to €72 million that had been attached to overbilled projects by the previous government as useless expenditure. By relocating the data centre to new premises, we've managed to save €39.5 million," she added.
