An emergency camp for 250 people is being set up in the eastern Slovak town of Michalovce, some 30 kilometres from Ukrainian border. In response to Slovakia's request for assistance under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, Italy has provided Slovakia with technical equipment to build this tent camp. It will serve to increase the accommodation capacity of the nearby large capacity centre in Michalovce.
The aid convoy set off from Italy in the early hours of Friday (18 March) and arrived in Michalovce on Saturday (19 March) afternoon. It consisted of 20 vehicles, nine of which were trucks and seven caravans. Construction started immediately after arrival.
