Slovak labour market offers over 32,000 vacancies suitable for Ukrainians

The Slovak labour market currently offers more than 32,000 vacancies suitable for Ukrainians. These are positions that have long failed to be filled due to low interest on the part of Slovaks. As a rule, they are with a lower level of qualification, for which the language barrier is not an obstacle. In addition, around 60,000 more positions could soon be available for seasonal work. Within six months, some 92,000 positions could be available.

"The largest share of jobseekers from Ukraine can find employment in the sector of operators and assemblers of machinery and equipment, then as auxiliary and unskilled workers, such as cleaners, warehouse assistants, production assistants, and also as workers in services and trade, such as cooks, caregivers, waiters," said Slovak Labour Minister Milan Krajniak. He sees an opportunity for employment in seasonal work, especially in the catering and tourism sectors.

The Labour Ministry reminds that filling vacancies with foreigners will help the Slovak economy. At the same time, Slovaks do not have to worry that the price of labour will decrease due to the arrival of workers from third countries. Foreigners mainly fill those jobs that Slovaks are not interested in, or for which there is a shortage of labour on the market. "If refugees from Ukraine are employed in Slovakia, the negative impact that unemployed refugees dependent on the state would have on public finances will also be significantly reduced," added the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic.

Job vacancies also in the Ukrainian language are posted on the sluzbyzamestnanosti.gov.sk portal, which the ministry launched on 1 February. Jobseekers can search for a job from the catalogue of vacancies and contact the employer directly.
