Asylum-seekers to have access to labour market after six months

Asylum-seekers should be given access to the Slovak labour market as early as six months after their asylum proceedings are launched, according to an amendment to the Asylum Act approved by Parliament on Thursday. A nine-month period is currently in place. Asylum-seekers should also be entitled to social and psychological counselling and a cultural orientation course. The amendment also introduces a monthly allowance for people under international protection amounting to 1.75 times the subsistence minimum, which they can draw for a period of six months. "The main goal of the amendment is to regulate systematically the initial integration of asylum-seekers and foreigners who have been granted supplementary protection," stated the Interior Ministry, which submitted the legislation.
