On Wednesday, the government discussed concrete steps to help Ukrainians fleeing to Slovakia. The so-called “Lex Ukraine” bill addresses the issues of health and social insurance for asylum seekers, their employment, as well as the presence of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation troops on our territory. According to the measures approved by the government, the allowance for accommodating Ukrainian refugees should aggregately amount to a maximum of €500-1,250 per month, depending on the number of rooms provided. This should be paid through municipalities. All incoming refugees should also receive emergency medical care, for the first 30 days after entering Slovakia’s territory. Asylum seekers, as well as those who have applied for temporary refuge, are guaranteed emergency healthcare without limit. Ukrainians should also be able to get a job more easily. Temporary vocational training could be provided for all health professions, not just doctors, nurses and midwives. For the time being, education professionals do not have to provide proof of good character issued by their home country. The government passed the bill on a fast-tracked legislative procedure to the parliament.
