With thousands of Ukrainian refugees arriving in Slovakia every day, the burden on the Slovak health-care system will increase and some of these patients will have to be relocated to other countries in the near future due to an overload, Health Minister Vladimir Lengvarsky predicted at a special session of EU health ministers on Tuesday.
“We consider the lack of staff, medicines and medical supplies to be the main problems for the future and we’ll need support from the EU,” said Lengvarsky. An overload is expected in infectious diseases, emergency and oncology wards, as well as in burn and traumatology wards, the minister warned his counterparts.
On this note, Lengvarsky asked for assistance and cooperation from other EU countries in case Slovakia’s capacities are overloaded, including by relocating some of these patients. Lengvarsky appreciated the efforts of EU countries in these difficult times and assured that Slovakia is fully prepared to provide maximum support and care to the people of Ukraine.
