Prime Minister granted audience with Pope Francis

Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger was received for the first time in his tenure by Pope Francis in the Vatican on Monday. At the meeting, Heger thanked the pope for visiting Slovakia last September. He highly appreciated that His Holiness visited Slovakia amid pandemic times. Among other matters, the two discussed Russia's aggression in Ukraine. "We concurred that mankind must tread the path of peace, mutual solidarity, respect and selfless aid," said Heger. At the same time, the Prime Minister voiced his thanks for the Church's active approach on the Slovak-Ukrainian border.
During the visit, Heger also met the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. According to the premier, they agreed that the violence in Ukraine must end as soon as possible. Prime Minister informed Parolin about Slovakia's aid for war refugees.
