Unaccompanied minor refugees are cared for in Centres for Children and Families

If minor children cross the Slovak–Ukrainian border while fleeing the war without any accompaniment, the police are to inform the staff of the Offices of Labour, Social affairs and Family, who are on standby and will come to their aid. First, the expert called in will check that the child has everything he or she needs to be safe at that moment and will talk to the child about the next course of action. Then, the headquarters selects the most suitable location for the minor refugee's stay in Slovakia – one of the Centres for Children and Families (CDR). Minister of Labour Milan Krajniak has informed about this on a social network.

"If necessary, an interpreter is called in to help. Next comes the provision of Slovak language instruction and the prompt placement of children in pre-school and school facilities," the minister said as he illustrated the subsequent steps leading to integration.
