Following a request from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), the Netherlands and Germany are preparing to deliver the Patriot air defence system to Slovakia. Dutch Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongern made the announcement on Tuesday, TASR reports, citing a report by Dutch news agency ANP.
In addition to the missiles, the Netherlands will also send 150 soldiers to Slovakia. According to the minister, it is not yet clear when exactly the equipment will be sent, but it should be as soon as possible.
The delivery of the Patriot system to Slovakia is part of NATO's efforts to strengthen the alliance's eastern flank in the wake of the war in Ukraine. The Dutch army has owned the system since 1987 and recently upgraded it.
