High fevers, exhaustion, difficulty breathing, pain and acute stress reactions are among the most common diagnoses of war refugees from Ukraine who have been treated by Slovak paramedics. People fleeing the war in Ukraine are being treated for health problems and receiving necessary medical care in Slovakia, Health Ministry spokesperson Zuzana Elisasova has reported, adding that in the event of life-threatening emergencies, medical care is provided immediately and free of charge. Asylum-seekers and applicants for temporary refuge are entitled to urgent and necessary medical care, including health care based on a medical examination. They also can make use of outpatient emergency services and central hospital reception. As of Monday (March 7), the civic association IPčko, together with the non-profit organization People in Need, launched a psychological helpline in the Ukrainian language. The crisis hotline 0800 500 888 is free of charge, anonymous and operates every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eight Ukrainian-speaking psychologists will be available in the first few days, with the team expected to grow in the coming days.
