President signs into law amendment to State Citizenship Act

President Zuzana Caputova has signed an amendment to the State Citizenship Act according to which Slovak nationals who acquire the citizenship of a foreign country will not have to lose their Slovak citizenship if they prove that they have lived abroad for at least five years. Meanwhile, the same condition will apply for those who've already been deprived of their Slovak citizenship by acquiring the citizenship of another country and would like to reacquire it. In addition, those who've been deprived of their Slovak citizenship at their own request should reacquire it in line with the amendment, while at the same time citizenship should be granted to anyone who has at least one Slovak parent, grandparent or great-grandparent.
