On Monday, the Slovak Government agreed to the presence of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic on the territory of Slovakia for the purpose of humanitarian aid. These soldiers should help to improve Slovakia's ability to cope with the mass influx of war refugees from Ukraine.
Czech Republic is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, also called NATO. Half of Slovaks agree that NATO troops will come to our territory, according to a survey conducted by the Focus agency. A total of 45% of the people polled disagree with the presence of NATO troops, 5% of the respondents were unable to answer. Meanwhile, people were also asked about the presence of US soldiers in Slovakia - 67% disagree with it and 29% support it, 4% of Slovaks could not answer.
A total of 87% of Progressive Slovakia party's supporters, 76% of Ordinary People party's supporters, 75% of Freedom and Solidarity supporters and 63% of 'We Are Family' supporters agree with the Alliance's presence in Slovakia. Among Christian Democrats and Voice-SD supporters, 61% support the presence of these soldiers. On the contrary, 82% of far right Republic's supporters do not agree with NATO troops in our territory. Among Smer-SD backers, 66% do not support the presence of these soldiers.
The survey was carried out between February 22-March 1 on a sample of 1,003 respondents.
