Police are preparing large-capacity centres where they will handle refugees from Ukraine, said the head of the Border and Alien Police Office Robert Gucký. These centres should be set up in Bratislava, Žilina, Michalovce (Košice region) and Humenné (Prešov region). "Every person who enters Slovakia is checked in the information systems of the Police Corps. Those who do not have documents are introduced into the information systems using fingerprints and biometrics so that we know who is entering here," said Gucký.
As of Sunday, the total number of people who have entered Slovakia from Ukraine since the start of the war was almost 114,000. "The vast majority were Ukrainian nationals," said the chief of the border guards. The third-country nationals are mainly students. In cooperation with Frontex and in coordination with other countries, the police are helping to organise repatriation flights. According to Slovak Health Minister Vladimír Lengvarský, ambulances have been present at all border crossings with Ukraine as of Thursday.
