Concerning the current situation in Ukraine and influx of war refugees to Slovakia, the Foreign Police and its departments stated earlier this week that until further notice, they will deal only with foreigners from Ukraine. All existing bookings at the Police Departments have been cancelled.
However, Police Corps Presidium spokesperson Denisa Bardyova explained to RSI that the police would publish all information about new appointments in the near future.
For those foreigners who already have a residence permit in Slovakia and are approaching the expiration of their papers, the police is preparing an amendment to the Law on Residence of Foreigners, which will extend their stay. This amendment should cover foreigners if they do not manage to submit their application for renewal of residence on time, due to the limited processing of foreigners at the paging offices.
Therefore, expired residency permits and other documents will be valid even after their expiration. This information is available in hard copy at all Foreign Police offices also in English.
Moreover, Ukrainians arriving in Slovakia from their war-affected homeland can apply for so-called temporary shelter in the Slovak Republic. Temporary shelter is the simplest form of protection for those fleeing war and does not require lengthy official procedures. It will allow Ukrainian citizens quick and unrestricted access to the labour market and health care, and to education for their children.
